Ms. Christine Janev is a Registered Psychotherapist who offers evidence-based individual and couple’s counselling and psychotherapy services in English. She has extensive experience working with adults (18+) in private practice, and a specialty working with those in the second half of life, who are grappling with questions of identity or purpose in life, navigating relationships, career transitions and health related concerns, among other issues. Christine is a passionate advocate of reducing the stigma of mental health, especially in underserved populations, like seniors. She has been a guest speaker and has taught at the community college level on a variety of topics related to mental health, and cognitive decline. She is comfortable working with a range of clinical concerns, being mindful of providing client centered therapy that focuses on the client’s strength and lived experience.
Since 2010 Christine has worked in a variety of roles within community agencies providing support to those experiencing the impact of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, particularly the unique stresses of the care partner. Christine has also facilitated multiple psychoeducational, and psychotherapeutic groups to help participants learn to manage stress, build resiliency, learn to cope with cognitive decline, move through grief and loss, and how to regulate emotions and behaviours. Christine is a warm and caring clinician who strives to create a safe space in which her clients feel comfortable sharing their unique stories.
Christine completed her Masters in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University, and her Bachelor’s of Arts (Honours) in Psychology at York University. Her areas of expertise include anxiety, low mood, grief and loss, trauma, caregiver burnout and stress management delivered through the use of modalities like Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal and Integrative Therapy, Solutions Focused, and Grief Therapy.
