My work:
My work has primarily been working with seniors and their families who are requiring social work advocacy and assistance with navigating a life with new transitions. Circumstances requiring intervention may include living with memory loss, understanding dementia, changes in behavior, housing changes, navigating the ins and outs of long term care placement, changing family dynamics, loneliness, loss of a spouse or caregiver, families living at a distance, advance care planning, griefwork and loss, loss, loss.
Griefwork specifically is currently focused on how to celebrate and memorialize a family member or loved one who has died during the covid-19 pandemic. With funeral services, burials, memorials and other normal cultural rituals and practices not available for sharing in community with others, our grief remains frozen and often very traumatic. I am working with families to cope with this different kind of grief and learn meaningful ways to celebrate lives lost now while planning future memorials and celebrations.
