Services Offered
I am a Counsellor experienced in grief and loss matters. I support people who have been bereaved. I also work with people with many types of loss – grief presents in many forms, including the grief of ending a relationship or marriage, grief of losing a job, grief of losing health, a pet, grief of losing someone to suicide, grief of losing a known way of life. Other forms of grief perhaps not recognized as such include the incremental grief of loss of a loved one with Alzheimer’s (you’ve lost the relationship with the person they were and it is a slow and painful loss), grief of having a family member with an addiction (again, you’ve lost who they were), grief of watching a family member with chronic pain or an acquired brain injury. There are many forms of grief. There is the grief experienced when there is ambiguous loss or disenfranchised grief – perhaps you have partnered with someone for years and your partner’s family do not recognize you so if there is a death you are not included in the funeral (very painful). There is the grief of losing a family member and not ever knowing where they are (eg the Malaysian Airline plane that went down or loss of people at war), loss of fertility or loss with miscarriage or stillbirth. There is the grief of losing someone who disappears into a cult or into a different way of life to the way you’ve known. I may not have covered your particular loss but you may well be grieving even if your particular type of grief is not named.
