Adult Family and Child Caregiver Support Group
Free, 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Adult family and parent caregiving has been associated with increased stress, depression, and anxiety, relationship conflict, feelings of burn out, grief, and declining cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and spiritual responses. The Adult Family Caregiver Group is for adults who are caring for their spouse, partner, sibling, or parents, while the Child Caregiver Group is for parents who are caring for their infant to 18 year old adult child with severe or chronic physical, neurodevelopmental, genetic, and/or mental health conditions.
This group will review effective ways to cope with caregiving stress, maintain self-care and boundaries, and ways to reduce caregiver fatigue. We will review a few effective stress-reduction and cognitive-behavioral exercises associated with improved caregiver functioning, and communication skills associated with improved relationship satisfaction. Joining a group will also have the benefit of reducing isolation feelings, which is common among caregivers.
