Howard Jay Rubin, CFP®, CeFT®, RICP®, is the founder of Transitions Financial Planning and a second-generation financial planner with sixteen years of experience in comprehensive financial planning, investment management, and retirement-income planning.
Howard’s work has developed a particular focus on supporting women navigating major financial transitions, especially recent widows facing important decisions in the midst of profound change. He also helps people plan for, and move through, a well-supported retirement that fits the life they really want to live. His work brings together fiduciary financial planning, investment guidance and an understanding of the personal side of money — especially when grief, uncertainty or major life change make decisions feel harder.
Howard believes financial planning during transition should begin with protection, not pressure. By listening closely to what has changed, what is weighing heavily, and what matters most, he helps clients understand what genuinely needs attention and action, what may need safeguarding, and when it may be wiser to create a Protective Pause around a major decision until there is enough clarity, perspective, and readiness to make it thoughtfully.
Howard believes good financial planning should be both empowering and collaborative, with each woman’s authority over her own life kept front and center. When helpful, he welcomes active collaboration with family members, CPAs, attorneys, therapists, grief professionals, and other trusted advisers who may be part of a client’s support circle.
His background includes a B.A. in Psychology from Duke University, Certified Financial Transitionist® and Retirement Income Certified Professional® designations, grief educator and Kinder Life Planning certifications, and counseling experience. Together, these experiences have helped shape an approach that brings together the technical side of money with the personal side of financial change.
Personally, Howard is the proud father of twin college students and was once a full-time performing magician in Hollywood.
