Group mission, ground rules, and standard sign-up processes
Mission
– Provide a supportive place for survivors of murder-suicide loss to share their experience, thoughts, and feelings regardless of their relationship(s) to the victims and/or perpetrators.
– Provide constructive ways to grieve, cope and heal.
-Remove or work to reduce the stigma and shame an individual might feel with this often misunderstood and complex type of suicide loss.
– Help participants leave with a tool, connection, or new perspective that helps them move toward their healing goals.
Meeting guidelines and ground rules
– Our support group is open to those who have lost any loved one(s) to murder-suicide loss and each loss and relationship has equal value in the group.
– We encourage all members to share openly, honestly, and from the heart, but silence is ok too.
– All emotions are valid and will not be met with judgment, criticism, or condemnation.
– We practice respect for the beliefs and values of others. Spiritual or political issues may be discussed as long as they do not divide the group or take up an inappropriate amount of time.
– We respect the commitment of each others’ time. We will begin the meeting on time and end on time.
– This support group is not intended to serve as or replace professional counseling, guidance, or treatment.
– All group discussions will be kept confidential unless otherwise agreed upon.

In these sessions on Zoom, “The Art to Heart and Grief Connection” © Group will include both grief education and an experiential, expressive arts therapy and journaling process. As a participant, you will be able to identify and better understand your stages through the grief journey and will be able to explore and express your grief emotions within the large group setting under the guidance of Art Therapist, Grief Educator and LMFT, Alena Marie. You will then be able to share your expressions in small breakout rooms. The group will resume together for brief sharing and closure each week. Participants will have occasional Self-Care homework in preparation for the next session.
NO ART EXPERIENCE is required! A Course Outline and A Materials List will be provided for supplies needed, prior to the first group.
