Grief is a universal experience-everyone deals with loss at some point in their life. Loss comes in many shapes, forms, and expressions.
Regardless of its origin, loss needs to be validated, processed, and integrated into the new normal we must define. The goal is never to get “over it,” only to summon the courage to go through it. I believe we never truly stop grieving (and loving) those we’ve lost, but we can begin again to grow…so our grief consumes less space.
Often people don’t recognize grief because their emotional turmoil is not related to a death or major divorce. However, even the loss of a vision or plan we had for our life can bring grief. It may also come from a very tangible loss of a relationship, career, hometown, or even a valued pet.
I worked with Hospice for a number of years and found it to be one of the most rewarding seasons of my professional life. Now, in my Private Practice, I am truly honored by, and grateful for, each and every client who finds in me a safe place to share and work through their grieving.
