Brian is a Grief Guide, Life Purpose Coach, and Mental Fitness Trainer. His client work consists of one-to-one customized sessions meeting you where you are. In addition, Brian often teaches classes.

Brian knows everyone’s grief is unique. He meets you where you are and tailors the work to what you need when you need it. Brian offers a complimentary thirty-minute consultation so that you and he can assess whether you are a good fit for each other before you commit to working with him.

In addition to helping with the loss of a person in your life, Brian helps with other types of grief events including the loss of a job, pet loss, divorce, illness, etc. Brian’s approach is based on over 60 years of experience in life, including all of these events and the passing of his 15-year-old daughter, Shayna Elayna Smith, at the age of 15, in 2015. Brian has worked with hundreds of parents through the Helping Parents Heal organization. He started his grief guidance and life coaching business in 2019 so he could reach more people.

Brian provides a safe space where you can safely share what you are experiencing. Brian shares techniques he discovered and developed after his devastating loss. Perhaps most importantly, he can help you understand that death is not goodbye and that your relationship with your loved one can continue. Any ending is a new beginning. Brian’s understanding is not a religious-based belief but a position based on reason and evidence. Brian doesn’t ask you to take his word for anything. He shares what he has discovered and allows you to draw your own conclusions.

Brian is on the board of Helping Parents, a non-profit peer-to-peer support group for parents of children who have passed. He is a sought-after podcast guest and public speaker having spoken at IANDS conferences, Helping Parents Heal, The Death Grief & Belief Conference, and more. He is the author of Grief 2 Growth and the host of the Grief 2 Growth podcast.

I’m a certified grief educator and coach, supporting individuals, leaders, and groups to better understand grief and learn how to live alongside it with compassion, flexibility and meaning.

My dad died in the summer of 2024 and his death was what bought me to the Certified Grief Educator programme.

My approach is grounded in psychological flexibility and contemporary grief education so that I can help people make sense of what they’re experiencing, whether after bereavement, anticipatory loss, identity change, or major life transitions  and develop the capacity to carry grief without being consumed by it.

I offer 1:1 online sessions, and a significant part of my work takes place outdoors, particularly during spring, summer, and autumn. Nature offers rhythm, perspective, and steadiness qualities that grief often responds to more readily than words alone. Through walk and talk sessions, seasonal grief walks, workshops, and reflective group spaces I create psychologically safe environments where grief can be acknowledged, understood and integrated into a meaningful life.

I don’t offer therapy or quick answers. What I offer is education, presence and a compassionate framework for living well after loss without abandoning love, identity, or what matters most.

The deaths of my beloved animals unraveled me to my core, revealing how grief-illiterate our culture is, especially when it comes to pet loss. Grief is often minimized with statements like:

• “It was just a pet.”

• “I lost one too, I understand.”

• “When are you getting another?”

These bonds are profound, and grief is not something to be tucked away. It’s a reflection of love that continues, even after loss.

With over 30 years of experience, I blend my roles as a Certified Grief Coach, Certified Interspecies Life Awareness Coach, Neuro Change Practitioner, and RTT Practitioner with a deep understanding of animal communication. My work is centered on helping people reconnect with their animals and nature, especially during moments of loss and transition.

I offer the following services: grief coaching, relationship and intimacy coaching, trauma resolution, embodiment coaching and post-traumatic growth. I work with clients 1-on-1 all over the world, including my local area. I hold all sessions online so clients can participate in sessions from the safety, privacy and familiarity of home.

Although other coaches or therapists might have certifications in grief, I have personal experience. In 2020, I lost my husband of over thirty years and my beloved youngest son, half of my little four-person family, just six short months apart. The loss of my husband was one thing; the loss of my child was devastating on every single level of my being. I have walked all the way through this loss to the other side and know the terrain of grief like the back of my hand. I know the pitfalls of grief; I know how easy and natural it is to get stuck or lost. Additionally, I have lived through many other losses, eleven in all: including death of a parent by suicide, an uncle by suicide, sudden death, death caused by refusal of medical treatment and others. As a coach, I offer my compassion, presence and capacity to feel the more challenging feelings of grief to help clients move through loss while connecting with their hearts, deepening embodiment, restoring emotional resilience and fluidity and a sense of vibrancy and aliveness.
