Welcome!
No one wants or expects to become a member of this club, but it is inevitable that we will experience losses during our lifetime. Perhaps someone you are close to will die. You may receive a terminal health diagnosis, experience a relationship break-up, be terminated from a job, need to move to another city or province, or experience a life-altering event.
While volunteering on the Sexual Assault Crisis Line, I discovered my affinity for helping people going through very difficult situations. After the untimely death of my husband, I joined a grief support group for widows. Participating in that group acquainted me with other women in similar situations. We were great supports for each other, especially during the first summer of COVID.
Two years later, in the words of David Kessler, I decided to “turn my pain into purpose” by volunteering with the local community hospice. I have now joined the staff of Prairie Hospice Society. And every day I see the invaluable contribution that peer support makes in the lives of our clients.
I feel privileged to offer in-person Grief and Bereavement Support to groups and individuals. If you are considering peer support, please reach out. I look forward to meeting you!
