Professional Certifications and Licenses

I have worked in local government for a number of years, having a background in law enforcement. In this time I worked as both as an officer and a manager, latterly responsible for promoting the wellbeing of colleagues at all levels of the organisation. In this time I gained experience in working with work related stress.

Since retraining as a counsellor/psychotherapist I have gained experience in both short-term and long-term counselling; I have worked as a counsellor at a university and college, a bereavement charity, a general counselling charity, and privately. I work with anyone aged 16 and over.

For many years I have worked on a helpline and assisted with face-to-face group work with individuals and families being bereaved by suicide.

I have recently worked in an educational setting working with young people who have physical, sight, hearing or learning difficulties and have gained experience of the challenges faced by these individuals.

I have trained in integrative relational approach. I combine the person centred approach with other modalities such as transactional analysis and mindfulness as appropriate to the client. I also have an interest in attachment theory.

Other qualifications/training include:

Level 2 Bereavement Care, TA101 Introduction to Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, CBT, Mental Health First Aid, Working with Relational Trauma, Dissociation and Dissociative Identity Disorder, Coaching, Mindfulness, Safeguarding, Play Therapy, Dream work, Self Harm.

About me

I am a BACP registered counsellor/psychotherapist based in Marsh, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

I provide a safe, confidential space to enable us together to explore what has brought you to counselling. I work in an integrative way, meaning the way I work is flexible, depending on you, who is in the driving seat of therapy.

My experience is varied, having worked with a diverse range of clients in a number of different settings including educational establishments, bereavement charities and general counselling. This has included working with adults and young people with feelings of depression, loneliness, grief, loss, isolation, anxiety, hopelessness, suicidality and anger.

I believe the relationship between client and therapist is crucial, attending one session is not a commitment to therapy, we can meet to discuss your difficulties in more detail and decide together if I can provide what you need.

I see clients in a designated private room on the first floor in my house. This counselling space has been created to provide comfort and calm. I am located in a quiet area and the room is not over-looked.

My practice is based in Marsh, close to bus stops and with easy parking.

Who can I help?

I work with anyone aged 16 and over, male and female from all social backgrounds. I treat every client as a unique individual, I take the time to learn about you.

I work both short-term; allowing you to focus more specifically on the problem or problems that have brought you for counselling, and longer term; looking at how your past is impacting on your present thoughts, feelings and emotions. In either work, your needs are at the forefront of our work together, aimed at helping you find positive, hopeful changes.
