As much as I’ve chased numerous “certifications” in thanatology, I consider the lower-case title of lifelong griever and my own losses to be the most important credential in my work as a Grief Tender.
I’m wary of so much of what passes for certifications, be that the coaching industry, where a weekend workshop somehow suffices for coaching expertise, or the old-school bereavement model, where grief has been pathologized and understood to be some one-size-fits-all equation. As Jan Richardson reminds us, “grief is particular.”
My approach to grief’s particularity is both consultative and creative. I lean in listening to your story and set an altar and a chair for your grief to make itself at home. I equip you with essentials for your grief backpack so that no matter where you find yourself on your journey, you’ll feel better prepared to meet the challenges. And together, be that individually and/or in community with other grievers, we map a way forward, so you feel seen, heard, and hallowed in your grief.
