Hi. My name is Barbara Benoualid and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in California. I speak French and English and conduct my sessions in both languages. As a therapist my goal is to help explore and uncover the patterns that are getting in the way of your fulfillment and joy or keeping you feeling stuck. Together we can make sense of your patterns, as we explore your past and present- revealing your strengths and the obstacles in your way. You’ll learn new tools that will help you move forward differently. I will work with you to manage emotions, find tools to cope with you stress, build on your strengths, understand how you can impact your relationships, resolve conflicts, and live a balanced and more fulfilling life.
Working with you through grief, as your support and counselor, I will be gentle and present for you. There is no right or wrong way to feel the emotions when you have experienced loss. It can be accompanied by guilt, and deep sadness. I will be present to listen and guide you when you are ready.
My goal is to accompany you through your journey of grief wherever you are. I will listen and be there to help you find your way through your grief to a place where you can enjoy your life in meaningful ways. I will support you and be present for you as you process and grow from your personal experience. I work with many types of losses that people experience throughout their lifetime- divorce, job loss, spousal/partner loss, loss of child, loss of a parent, loss of home, accidental, suicide, long-term illness.

I am an LMFT, a certified grief yoga teacher ™, and trained in EMDR. My specialties include grief and trauma work, and I incorporate a somatic approach into my sessions. I have worked with survivors of sexual abuse, suicidality, trauma, and in intensive programs (such as wraparound and FSP). After experiencing the loss of my beloved dogs, I found purpose in being of support to other grieving pet owners. Losing your companion is heart wrenching and finding hope can often feel impossible. I found power in grieving as a collective and that is how my pet loss group was created. In addition to grief groups, I also hold groups for those in the veterinarian profession. I am a compassionate therapist, passionate about my work, and in my spare time I run, do yoga, read, hangout with my dogs, and spend time with my family. I love nature, animals, helping the community, and fulfilling my passion to serve others through my profession.
I provide individual and group therapy in English and Spanish.
