Grieving is a process of learning how to live in a changed world.  When we experience a loss, we are challenged to acknowledge, accept, and integrate the loss into this confusing and sometimes scary new life.

In the last 25 years, I have worked at 3 different hospices throughout New York State, and I work with patients and families who are facing the end of life.  My career began as a case manager with the first hospice on Long Island, where I coordinated children’s bereavement services, established specialized bereavement support groups, and provided community education.

I also spent 3 years specializing in children’s bereavement, adolescents and their parents through developmentally age appropriate groups and short term counseling.

More recently, in my work as an Assistant Bereavement Coordinator, I created a bridge to bereavement to help families cope with the transition to a life without their loved one.  In this work, I work to build relationships within the family unit, and help them better understand their family’s dynamicsGrieving is a process of learning how to live in a changed world. My private practice as a grief educator and councilor focuses on working with individuals either in person or by phone, facilitating support groups, and speaking on all aspects of loss, death, dying and bereavement.
I became a Licensed Master of Social Work in 1994, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker through the Association of Social Work Boards.

Grief is a reaction to a loss.  A loss is typically defined as a death, but it’s not limited to that.  Loss comes in many shapes and forms: a relationship, job, a pet.  Grief is our reaction to that based on what we have learned from childhood, what we have experienced as adults, and how we have chosen to respond.  We then struggle to determine how to evolve and change.

The grieving process does not follow a prescribed path.  That’s like a one-size-fits-all window.  There are many commonalities to the grieving process.  However the journey is unique to the individual based on their heart-to-heart connection and their developmental stage in life.

I will hold the hope that you will find your place of healing, and I will accompany and guide you on that journey.
