I see you. I will sit with you. I will honor the mental, emotional and spiritual layers of your loss.
I offer in-person support in San Leandro, CA, and virtual services across California. I specialize in grief that’s often overlooked or minimized—grief tied to community trauma, racial injustice, and the complex pain of losing someone emotionally long before physically. I work with BIPOC clients grieving collective loss from immigration raids, police brutality, murder, and hate crimes. I also help women navigating the grief of an absent, emotionally unavailable, or deceased father. Grief isn’t one-size-fits-all. I will meet you where you are with compassion. Thank you for trusting me in your journey.

I am available to support people navigating their grief journeys through both in-person and online counseling sessions. Having experienced my own traumatic and personal losses has led me to want to serve others in grief, and guide in the understanding that grieving is about connection, not closure. I can personally relate to your grief around sibling and parent loss, loss from suicide, loss from cancer and pet loss.
Grief does not always revolve around a death. Losses that affect our daily lives can include dissolving a marriage, losing a job, or the anticipatory anxiety of the passing of our elderly parents. My goal is to meet each client where they are on their grief journey, provide an open heart, and walk alongside them. This is my way of turning pain into purpose.

Hi. My name is Barbara Benoualid and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in California. I speak French and English and conduct my sessions in both languages. As a therapist my goal is to help explore and uncover the patterns that are getting in the way of your fulfillment and joy or keeping you feeling stuck. Together we can make sense of your patterns, as we explore your past and present- revealing your strengths and the obstacles in your way. You’ll learn new tools that will help you move forward differently. I will work with you to manage emotions, find tools to cope with you stress, build on your strengths, understand how you can impact your relationships, resolve conflicts, and live a balanced and more fulfilling life.
Working with you through grief, as your support and counselor, I will be gentle and present for you. There is no right or wrong way to feel the emotions when you have experienced loss. It can be accompanied by guilt, and deep sadness. I will be present to listen and guide you when you are ready.
My goal is to accompany you through your journey of grief wherever you are. I will listen and be there to help you find your way through your grief to a place where you can enjoy your life in meaningful ways. I will support you and be present for you as you process and grow from your personal experience. I work with many types of losses that people experience throughout their lifetime- divorce, job loss, spousal/partner loss, loss of child, loss of a parent, loss of home, accidental, suicide, long-term illness.
