My story: My precious son, Jesse, passed away on 4/2/2019 at the age of 35. I have known trauma and heartache in my life, but all paled in comparison to the grief I felt. The first 2 years I remained stuck in my grief. I then joined the on-line group, Tender Hearts, with David Kessler. I began making progress in my grief journey. I want to work with others who have lost children because I know it is possible to survive and even find meaning again in life. Part of that meaning for me was to become a certified Grief Educator.

Maria (She/Ella) works with the Great Spirit as an energy medicine healer, sound bowl practitioner, with focus on spiritual coaching and grief, due to the acknowledgement that death exists in all life’s experiences.
Coming from Chicanx – Mexican American roots, healing in traditions throughout my own upbringing and initiated through rituals as a mujer de conocimiento is the most sacred way I walk this path – as well as gathering in community. It is the way I was raised, and creating space like this for others feels like coming back home.
I pledge to show up with integrity and in service, with a full heart for my clients. I walk beside them on their own journeys of self-love, self-fulfillment and rediscovery. In Spanish, “te acompaño” speaks to me so much. It translates, to I accompany you on your path. I find that it is how I can best describe my purpose in healing work.
I hold space for the other with the intention of accompanying in love and without judgement. Only then can someone go to the spaces needed for deep healing. Only in the shadows can we call on ourselves and others to assist as we illuminate our deepest wounds. After years, I finally understand my place in this well-being world, in the way I move and why the owl medicine arrived to guide me in this work.

As much as I’ve chased numerous “certifications” in thanatology, I consider the lower-case title of lifelong griever and my own losses to be the most important credential in my work as a Grief Tender.
I’m wary of so much of what passes for certifications, be that the coaching industry, where a weekend workshop somehow suffices for coaching expertise, or the old-school bereavement model, where grief has been pathologized and understood to be some one-size-fits-all equation. As Jan Richardson reminds us, “grief is particular.”
My approach to grief’s particularity is both consultative and creative. I lean in listening to your story and set an altar and a chair for your grief to make itself at home. I equip you with essentials for your grief backpack so that no matter where you find yourself on your journey, you’ll feel better prepared to meet the challenges. And together, be that individually and/or in community with other grievers, we map a way forward, so you feel seen, heard, and hallowed in your grief.

One-on-one, private grief coaching by phone or video call.
I take a compassionate, deep listening approach to grief coaching. During a session I will ask you questions about your loved one. I want to hear the stories that connected you with your person. Tell me about the things that made you laugh together, the things you disagreed about, the things that took you by surprise, and the things you are missing the most. I will give you my full attention and carry your stories in my heart so your loved one is known. Through this sharing, you will be supported as you move along your grief journey.
My losses include sibling loss, loss to suicide, and parental loss (as an adult). I invite you to reach out to learn how I can help you with these types of losses. I am open to working with anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one, but have the most knowledge about these three losses.
